Southern Leyte is blessed to have white sandy beaches with awesome rock formations! We are blessed to have Tangkaan Beach! Located in Brgy. Tangkaan, Padre Burgos, this public beach is a perfect spot to see Limasawa Island from afar.
Apart from a stretch of white sand and awesome rocks, Tangkaan is also a perfect spot for cliff diving during high tide. Snorkeling is a great idea too. There’s a nearby marine sanctuary that features the marine life in the area. Sea turtles can sometimes be spotted too.
How to get to Tangkaan beach?
If you are from Sogod, you can take a bus or van going to Maasin City that takes the Malitbog road. Never take the one that is via Bato since it will be going to the other side.
Sogod → Bontoc → Tomas Oppus → Malitbog → Padre Burgos
If you are from Hilongos or Bato (the ports of Hilongos and Bato are gateway to Cebu and Bohol), consider the following:
There is no direct a bus going to Maasin City if you are from Hilongos. However, you can take a bus or a multicab going to Bato, Leyte. There are buses from Sogod going to Maasin City that will pass through this town. Then from Maasin City, take a bus or van going to Sogod. You need to stop at Padre Burgos.
Hilongos → Bato → Matalom → Maasin → Macrohon → Padre Burgos
From Cebu City to Maasin
Note: If you are from Cebu, there’s a fast craft going to Maasin City. Daily trip starts at 6AM. Estimated travel time from port of Cebu to Maasin City port is about 3-4 hours. From Maasin City, go the public terminal and ride a bus going to Sogod and stop at Padre Burgos.
Once in Padre Burgos, hire a tricycle to get a ride to Tangkaan Beach. It’s about a 15 minute ride from the town proper. It’s a famous tourist destination, so never be ashamed of asking the locals.
Entrance fee: 5 pesos
Concrete tables available at 100 pesos. Since the concrete tables are limited, the local barangay managing the beach also has folding tables available for rent. I think the price is 50 pesos plus 2 free chairs. Additional fee for additional chairs.
If you think you are up for a short stop or if you decide not to use any of the tables, you may do so (just pay for the entrance fee as a way of helping the barangay in maintaining the cleanliness of the area).
If you are in Southern Leyte, please do visit Tangkaan! See you!
